  • On 12 September 2025, the EU Data Act will become applicable, introducing a new regulatory landscape for data sharing and access across Europe. This landmark legislation will affect a broad spectrum of businesses by setting out clear rules for when and how data must be shared, while also empowering users of connected products with greater control over their own data.   Contracts are central to the Data Act’s framework. By 12 September 2025, the European Commission is expected to publish recommended non-binding model contractual terms (MCTs) for data access and use, as well as standard contractual clauses (SCCs) for cloud computing contracts.   Join us for this timely online conference on 12 September, which coincides with the Act’s entry into application. Leading experts will examine the Commission’s recommended MCTs and SCCs and provide practical insights into the ongoing legal challenges and questions that practitioners face under the new regime. On Wednesday 16 July, the European Commission proposed the most ambitious ever Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) – the EU’s long-term budget for 2028-2034. With nearly EUR 2 trillion, the MFF is is set to invest more in the European Union’s independence and in our people. The Commission is putting forward a fundamentally reformed MFF, which is: 🔹 More flexible – to enable Europe to act and react fast to new developments 🔹 More simple – enabling citizens and companies to more easily access funding 🔹 More impactful – focusing EU action where it matters most Read more here 👉 https://europa.eu/!8R8VWX Preparing the proposals, we listened to Europeans, including young people, teachers, researchers, students, athletes and artists through extensive and public consultations and recommendations of a European Citizens’ Panel. When it comes to education, culture, youth and sport, this week’s proposals translate the Commission’s strong ambition to invest more in people and in the values that bind us together. 🎓Building on nearly 40 years of success, and honouring President Ursula von der Leyen’s promise, in her political guidelines, to strengthen Erasmus+, the new programme will see a nearly 50% increase in funding, with a proposed budget of €40.8 billion. It will continue to support high quality education and training and boost learning mobility for all. It will empower more learners and workers of all ages – especially those with fewer opportunities – to gain skills, study, train and volunteer across borders. 🤝It also becomes the single-entry point for young people, by integrating the European Solidarity Corps, and boosting civic engagement and youth exchanges. ⛹🏼♀️By investing in sport mobility and projects, Erasmus+ will help foster stronger and more connected societies. 🎭 A new flagship programme – AgoraEU – will support the pillars of a strong democracy under one umbrella, with a proposed budget of nearly €9 billion. With a strong Creative Europe-culture strand, the programme will provide more support for cultural creation, cross-border cooperation and access to cultural heritage for young people. 👩🏻⚕️The EU will also strengthen investment in talent and innovation through Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under the new Horizon Europe. With a proposed €175 billion budget, the programme will foster world-class research, support mobility of researchers, and strengthen innovation ecosystems across Europe. 📄 Find out more about Erasmus+ and AgoraEU 👉https://europa.eu/!nk7WHB 📄 Find out more about Horizon Europe 👉https://europa.eu/!7WgBVn Under the leadership of Executive-Vice President Roxana Minzatu, Commissioner Glenn Micallef and Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva, we are proud to have shaped these ambitious proposals. Now the work continues - with the European Parliament, Member States, stakeholders and citizens - to leverage #ThePowerOfTogether!

Senior Lawyer, Course Director at Academy of European Law (ERA)

The Academy of European Law ERA recently held a seminar on countering corruption in the EU and Albania in the Shkolla e Magjistratures for 33 participants comprising national judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officers. Albania was the first of the EU Candidate and Potential Candidate Countries to join ERA in 2023, which made the holding of this seminar in Tirana possible. The seminar analysed the global and European framework to counter corruption, including the latest developments in modernising the EU’s rulebook. Insights and challenges in countering corruption were detailed from the perspectives of the European Commission, Europol, Eurojust, the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO), as well as from national judicial and law enforcement authorities, both within Albania and in other European countries. Fruitful discussions were had as to what is already working well and where more work lies ahead, both at a national and European level, in particular with a view on enhancing cross-border cooperation. ERA looks forward to continuing its good cooperation with the Shkolla e Magjistratures to ensure that more ERA seminars will take place in Albania in the near future, as well as to facilitate the participation of Albanian practitioners in ERA’s events throughout the year. #corruption, #anticorruption, #ruleoflaw, #europeancommission, #europol, #eurojust, #eppo

Last week, I attended a fantastic five-day summer course on patents and intellectual property organized by ERA in Trier, Germany. It was an intensive week full of interesting lectures, including a visit to the Court of Justice of the European Union, and a great opportunity to upgrade and update the knowledge on patents as well as to share the latest case law with colleagues from all over Europe. Many thanks to Jean-Philippe Rageade and the organizers for having me aboard and for organizing such a great event. It was a privilege to attend such a great summer course and a good feeling to be a ‘’law student’’ once again. #ERA #EuropeanLaw #IntellectualProperty #CopyrightLaw #PatentLaw #LegalEducation #Trier #Networking #Gratitude
