Objectives and activities

The main objective of the project is to train some 240 EU legal practitioners (mainly judges, prosecutors, lawyers in private practice) in the handling of electronic evidence and its impact on criminal proceedings. In order to meet this objective, six practice oriented training seminars will be organised throughout Europe from December 2020 to September 2022. If adopted by then, the EU proposed Regulation on the Production and Preservation Orders for electronic evidence in criminal matters and the EU proposed Directive laying down harmonised rules on the appointment of legal representatives for the purpose of gathering evidence in criminal proceedings will be integral part of the training.

Provisional calendar:

Participants: Judges, Prosecutors and Lawyers

To familiarise participants (who often have no technical background) with the impact that electronic evidence has on criminal proceedings;
To offer an insight into different national EU criminal legal systems which have already experienced the handling of e-evidence in Court (knowledge of the legal systems of other EU Member States);
To familiarise participants with the new 2018 EU proposed legislation on e-evidence (if adopted);
To exchange best practices and information in a very practice-oriented way;
To facilitate networking opportunities and encourage close contacts and cooperation among EU legal practitioners.

Registration fee: 225 EUR (no discounts available)

Travel costs and two nights' hotel accommodation will be reimbursed by ERA upon receipt of the original receipts, tickets, boarding passes, invoices after the seminar.

Participants are asked to book their own travel and accommodation.

Participants should come from eligible EU Member States (UK and Denmark do not participate to the Internal Security Fund – Police Programme 2014-2020 of the European Union).

All applicants will be informed if they have been selected or not 10 working days after registration has closed.
