- Q & A with Anton Sintsov
Your current occupation and country of work?
I am a counsel in a Ukrainian law firm with a focus on litigation. Currently, I am temporarily living in the Slovak Republic, but my country of work is still Ukraine.
How you use European law in your work?
I have over 15 years of legal experience, specializing in business disputes. In my legal practice, I am trying to apply the relevant concepts and case law of the ECtHR and the CJEU to justify my clients’ legal positions. Moreover, I am taking part in numerous expert meetings and training courses wherein Ukrainian judges and lawyers are introduced to the most contemporary ECtHR and CJEU judgments that are relevant to Ukraine.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
Ukraine prioritized integration into international political and economic structures as its political objectives and, consequently, its membership in the Council of Europe and the European Union. Such integration of Ukraine into the political, economic, and legal spaces of the EU has inspired the Ukrainian legal community to study the EU law principles and doctrines and to apply the concepts and case law of the ECtHR and the CJEU. Therefore, it was extremely useful and productive for me to participate in the ERA Summer Course. Thanks to the scholarship I received a great background for my personal growth since learning about the law of cross-border civil litigation within the EU and beyond, the enforcement mechanisms, the newest EU regulations, and the recent case law of the CJEU, exchanging different views, communicating with experts from various countries, and achieving goals together during the workshops was a unique and invaluable experience for me.
