- Q & A with Aysu Özcan
What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am a research assistant in civil law in Gaziantep University (Turkey).
How do you use European law in your current work?
The recently adopted Turkish civil code is based on Swiss law. Within the framework of the European Convention on Human Rights, it is now the most applicable in the civil law. Therefore I needed an urgent update.
What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
It has been my ambition to write articles about the role of EU law in Turkey, and the training organised by ERA was very useful in terms of providing me with new knowledge and material for writing.
How did you benefit from the scholarship?
Thanks to ERA’s generous scholarship I was able to participate in a training abroad for the first time. Learning from legal experts from different EU countries was an amazing experience for me.
The Summer Course was also a great opportunity to improve my legal English and to connect with colleagues from different countries. The social programme, including the unforgettable trip to the CJEU in Luxembourg, allowed me to make many important connections other participants with whom I have remained in touch.
I am very grateful to ERA’s team for organising this event and hope to attend more of their trainings in the years to come.
