- Q & A with Buket Deniz
What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I'm a research assistant at the Law Faculty, Administrative Law department, at Gaziantep University in Turkey. From time to time, I work as a consultant at various law offices alongside my work at the university.
How do you use European law in your current work?
I provide consultancy services to various non-governmental organisations and individuals in the field of human rights and EU law. European Union Law intensively influences and transforms Turkish law, which is why I closely follow its developments. Due to the process of becoming members of the European Union, Turkey continues to integrate its own law into the law of the EU. For this reason, Turkish law is constantly changing.
What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
As a Turkish legal practitioner, I must follow the European law closely. In particular, I am interested in European Union Law, Human Rights Law and Administrative Law and want to develop further in these areas. The training I received at ERA has been very useful for my future studies. I have found both the speakers and the provided educational materials to be important sources of inspiration.
How did you benefit from the scholarship?
During the Summer Course on the Rule of Law in the European Union I had the opportunity to learn from the colleagues I met there. Together, we have all benefitted from the experience of prominent lawyers and officials from many different EU countries. Not only the theoretical aspect, but also the practical part of the course was very informative and instructive. The trip to the CJEU was valuable in terms of teaching us about the practical function of the rule of law in the European Union.
