- Q & A with Burim Azemi
Your current occupation and country of work?
I'm a lawyer in the Republic of Kosovo.
How you use European law in your work?
Currently, since Kosovo is not an EU member, I mostly use European law or to be more accurate the European Court’s of Justice decisions as proof for my cases. Through this and based on the fact that Kosovo laws are in line with European laws and EU legal acts, I try to make my cases stronger and also show judges that this is how a European court considers this particular matter. Most of those EU court decisions I use when I'm filing a constitutional request at the highest court level in Kosovo – the Constitutional Court.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
As a lawyer in a country that is trying and doing all the steps to be part of the EU (which we hope that will be as soon as possible) the scholarship and the knowledge that that I've gained through the course helped me a lot to get a better understanding of the litigation and analyze what a lawyer must do under EU regulations before filing a lawsuit in civil litigation that includes cross border disputes.
