- Q & A with Giedre Galgauskaite
Your current occupation and country of work?
I work as a junior associate at a top-tier Baltic law firm in the IP/IT practice group.
My work includes reviewing IP/IT field-related business' policies, drafting documents and various terms and conditions, as well as preparing procedural documents for litigation.
How you use European law in your work?
I use European law almost daily by monitoring the implementation status of various directives and regulations and advising clients on matters relating to European law, especially in trademark cases. Moreover, I read a lot of CJEU judgments when preparing litigation documents for clients. Besides that, I encounter a lot of European Union trademark-related questions, from registering one with the European Union Intellectual Property Office to initiating proceedings against a registered trademark owned by a counterparty.
This year, I started working more closely with IP law and I find it extremely interesting how national trademark regulations counteract European ones. Therefore, this ERA Summer Course on European Intellectual Property Law is the perfect opportunity for me to deepen my knowledge about European intellectual property regulation and it isvery beneficial for my further academic research and daily professional work. Furthermore, I would like to gain more knowledge in the design and copyright field since I do not encounter issues related to these aspects often at work.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
It was indeed a remarkable experience: The course has provided me with an extensive overview of IP law and its regulation at the European level. The speakers were experts in their fields and provided us with high-quality presentations, enriching Q&A sessions and interesting studies. Thus, I now have a better understanding of niche topics such as plant variety rights. Lastly, I have learned a lot from other participants and their diverse experience, which made this course even more insightful.
