- Q & A with Giulia Sura
Your current occupation and country of work?
I am a trainee lawyer at Cortesi Venturini Law Firm and intern at the Labour Section of the Civil Court of Parma.
How you use European law in your work?
Working as a Court Assistant in the Labour Section of the Civil Court of Parma in Italy, I need to be constantly updated on Labour Law both at national and European level.
This applies not only to regulations and directives but to the European Court of Justice case law which plays a key role when interpreting national rules too. Just think about art. 31 of the EU Charter of Human Rights and its interpretation given by the ECJ: “Article 31(2) of the Charter therefore entails, in particular (...) first, that the national court must disapply national legislation (...)” [CJEU Bauer, case C- 569/16].
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
As a recent graduate, you are not entitled to receive a wage during your internships in Italy.
This is why, without the scholarship I received, I wouldn’t have been able to attend this Summer Course on European Labour Law and take part in all the activities organized by ERA, such as the amazing visit to the CJEU. During this week I have been given the opportunity to deepen my knowledge on hot topics of European Labour Law such as posting of workers which I had never heard before and on which I am now researching for a paper to be delivered at the Labour Law Department of the University of Parma.
