- Q & A with Iris Gović Penić
What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am a judge in the County Court of Zagreb (Appeal Court) specialised in labour law. To be up-to-date with new cases and new judgments of EU Courts is part of my daily work, as I am also a judge who is in charge for following the practice of the European Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.
How did you benefit from the scholarship?
Only four county courts in Croatia can hear labour law disputes, and mine is the largest of these four.
Croatia has been an EU Member State since 2013 and we are now in the process of implementing the provisions of EU law, including labour law. I have to use European law every day, and the knowledge that I have acquired during the Summer Course will help me to become more efficient in my daily work.
I am also a lecturer and writer of labour law educational materials in Croatia which means that I will have the opportunity to spread my new knowledge. In short, the opportunity to attend the Summer Course on EU Labour Law was a great gift for me.
