- Q & A with Sreten Milovanović
Your current occupation and country of work?
I am a lawyer from Serbia and beneficiary of the initial training of the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia. I am currently assigned to work in the High Judicial Council until my appointment as a judge or prosecutor.
How you use European law in your work?
As someone who is undergoing training to perform the duties of a judge and prosecutor, it is necessary to expand your knowledge in several areas of law, including knowledge of EU law. The Serbian legal system is increasingly aligning with the EU system, especially when we bear in mind that Serbia is a candidate country for joining the EU. Hence, in the future it will be necessary to have knowledge of EU law. Although we are not a member of the EU, in our daily work we can apply the acquired EU law that is not in conflict with domestic law, which I do, and all with the aim of improving regular business obligations and efficiency. This is particularly reflected in the field of international cooperation.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
The scholarship I received allowed me to expand my knowledge that I could not have afforded on my own. It allowed me to meet new wonderful smart colleges which professional perspectives in this field of intellectual property made me realize new methods to overcome legal dilemmas and obstacles. In addition, it enabled me to progress both in the private and professional sphere. It also opened new doors and opportunities for me in the future.
