Our scholars 2020 – Sulenur Göztepe

What is your legal and legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am a master student at the University of Bremen in Germany, and also a doctorate student at Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University in Turkey. Currently, I am working on environmental law and writing my master thesis about environmental impact assessment.

How do you use European law in your current work?
I also work as a research assistant at the Ankara Haci Bayram Veli University in Turkey. In my doctorate study in Turkey and my master study in Germany, I always make comparisons between the EU and Turkey and other law systems. Doing so, I try to see which changes can be made in our law system; which sides of European law can be adopted or how can they be adopted. I want to be one of the few academicians in this field and to share my knowledge in Turkey.

What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
As I saw this ERA Summer Course on European Environmental law, I was so excited, since the subjects of the course were what I exactly need to learn or enhance my understanding. Especially in the parts of EIA and Public Participation, I have learned many new things which are very useful for my master thesis. It was a very fruitful and helpful course. During the course, I gained new aspects of the European Environmental law and new ideas for my future studies. Without this course, it could take weeks-long time to learn that much information!

How did you benefit from the scholarship?
Although everything took place online because of the current Coronavirus situation, it was a great experience with other friendly participants and kind ERA-workers! I am so happy that I had a chance to be an ERA-Scholarship holder.
