- Q & A with Valeriia Donchenko
Your current occupation and country of work?
My name is Valeriia Donchenko. I am from Ukraine. I work at the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine as a Chief Specialist of the Unit for cooperation with the OECD and other international organisations on taxation of the International Taxation Department.
How you use European law in your work?
Now Ukraine, despite difficult circumstances, continues its way to EU membership.
As an employee of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, I will also be directly involved in bringing the Ukrainian tax system to EU standards.
For Ukraine, it was very important to hear that despite the existence of some issues that need to be reworked or updated, Ukrainian tax legislation is already at a good level.
Previously, I did not have the opportunity to use the EU law in my work. However, now, there is a lot of work related to the implementation of the EU tax legislation and adaptation of the Ukrainian legislation to the EU standards, and there will be even more.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
My participation in the Summer Course on EU Tax law was a great experience for me and for my country. Thanks to the many excellent lectures, practical cases and workshops, I have the opportunity to look at tax law from the new perspective and understand how deep and comprehensive this subject is.
Despite all the difficulties that Ukraine will face during the transformation of its legislation and the legal system, I am sure that we will succeed because we have a strong country full of hardworking and intelligent people.
I am grateful to everyone who helped me to get to Trier and participate in this wonderful event.
I hope there will be more opportunities like this.
