Your current occupation and country of work?
Being the Attorney-at-Law and the counsel in labour law at Ilyashev&Partners Law Firm of Ukraine, I am thankful for the opportunity to attend ERA’s course during such a dramatic turning period in the history of Ukraine.
As I was obliged to move temporarily to France with my family, I found myself wanting to help other Ukrainians to understand their employment rights in Europe. That was my early motivation to participate in the summer course on European Labour Law.
How you use European law in your work?
In Ukraine, Attorneys-at-Law play a significant role in the application of the laws. In my view, to enable the correct application, it is useful to learn from the experiences shared by European colleagues and experts. Thanks to the courses at the Academy of European Law, I was able to gain insight into their experiences.
How you benefitted from the scholarship and the gained knowledge?
After Ukraine got the EU candidate status, I think every Ukrainian lawyer should start learning European law to help our country to become a strong member of the EU in the future. The course gave me knowledge of fundamental principles that should be implemented in the legislation of EU member states. I also understood how and when the Directives and Regulations of the European Parliament and of the Council should be applied. Equally exciting was the visit to the European Court of Justice.
