The transition towards a net-zero and green economy needs to be effected, in particular, by the real economy. However, with the EU Action Plan 2018 sustainability-related regulation has first addressed the financial services industry. Experience with the application of relevant rules to date has shown that such approach is likely not to meet the expectations, as long as there are no specific rules governing the activities and conduct of real economy enterprises. Thus, corporate sustainability has moved into the focus of rule makers, with its key areas of governance and reporting.
