The e-presentation provides insights into the supervision of anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT), focusing on the Maltese experience as a case study for supervisory initiatives. It details the preparations for the new EU AML Package, including the establishment of a single AML/CFT Rulebook, the recast of the Funds Transfer Regulation and the creation of a new EU AML/CFT Authority, AMLA. It highlights the shift towards outcome-based and risk-based supervision, emphasising the importance of harmonised rules, enhanced due diligence and stronger enforcement standards across the EU. The impact of these regulatory changes on financial institutions, obliged entities and supervisory authorities is also examined. Moreover, it discusses practical supervisory expectations regarding client screening, transaction monitoring and training initiatives with a focus on adopting advanced technologies and fostering a compliance culture.
