What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am a Romanian national with a strong interest and passion for European Law, especially European Economic Law. I am a Graduate Trainee within the Legal, Convergence and Enforcement Department – Legal Team of The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) in Paris, France.
How do you use European law in your current work?
Working in ESMA, I use European Law daily, especially in matters related to financial regulation and supervision. As part of the legal team I am using European law in my daily work providing legal advice, pursuing legal research, offering support to senior lawyers, policy offers and with the senior lawyers to the Board of Supervisors in enforcement cases.
What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
I am a young legal professional deeply passionate about European Law with an affinity for Economic Law especially Financial Law and Regulatory, Competition Law and European and International Taxation Law and with experience in Litigation and Dispute Resolution mechanisms, acquiring legal knowledge and practical experience in these fields as much as possible, both at national and European level. In my career so far I had the chance to combine the professional experience in both private sector and the European public sector, as part of the Legal Service of the European Commission and now within the Legal Team of ESMA.
How did you benefit from the scholarship?
Being offered the full scholarship to participate in the summer course was a great chance for me to deepen my academic and practical skills in that field. I would strongly advise any legal professional working in the Financial Services sector to apply for this course.
This experience was not only a valuable academic challenge, packed with good quality information and very well-prepared speakers, but it was also the perfect opportunity to strengthen my professional network by meeting and learning from fellow legal practitioners from different Member States.
