- Q & A with Justyna Sarkowicz
What is your legal background, your current occupation and country of work?
I am a Polish lawyer. Just recently I completed my master studies and now I am doctoral student. I am going to be a prosecutor.
How do you use European law in your current work?
The knowledge I gained on EU law I will be using in my doctoral thesis. As a young lawyer, working on various projects at the European Institute of Law and having the right to vote on draft European Union legal regulations, European law is an important part of my work. In addition, I am writing a doctoral dissertation focusing on Polish and European criminal law in the field of plagiarism crime.
What was your motivation for attending this particular event?
My professional goal is to work one day as a prosecutor so the knowledge of European criminal law will contribute to my professional skills, which will have a positive effect on my future work as a prosecutor.
I am interested in various legal fields, but mostly I would like to work in European criminal law and to evaluate its impact and implementation in the Polish Legal System.
Therefore, I would like to undertake a detailed analysis of dependence and their consequences.
How did you benefit from the scholarship?
The Summer Course in European Criminal Justice contributed to broadening my knowledge which I am going to use in my doctoral thesis. High-quality lecturers provided me with valuable updates on EU law that I will certainly use in my work both as a lawyer and as an academic lecturer.
Despite the difficult situation caused by the coronavirus, the summer course was prepared at the highest level and the quality of the discussion and the exchange among the participants were not affected.
I am sure I will participate in courses organised by the Academy of European Law in the future.
