The e-presentation examines the far-reaching consequences of recent judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) concerning the Law Enforcement Directive (LED) and the use of data in criminal investigations. Relevant judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) regarding the use of said data area are also covered. A particular focus is given to the interpretation of key provisions of the LED by the CJEU, as well as issues relating to the legal basis for authorising the processing of biometric and genetic data, the role of national legislation and the protection of the rights of data subjects.
