The FoE Italian Chapter kicks off in style with the hot topic: The return of geo-economics and Europe
18 April 2024
On 18 April 2024, the Italian Chapter of Friends of ERA celebrated their first event in Rome: The event drew together more than 40 lawyers and judges from Rome, Milan and Florence, as well as the Young Friends of ERA community, to engage in an insightful discussion on the intersection of geo-economics and Europe.
Francesco Bertolino, journalist at Corriere della Sera, moderated the dinner interview with Giovanni Pitruzzella, judge at Italy’s Constitutional Court, . discussing the questions and implications of the return of geo-economics and Europe and what it means for Italy and Europe.
The key takeaways: More recently, we have witnessed the crisis of hyper-globalisation and the post-Cold War liberal-democratic order. It was based on the distinction between economics and politics, which is also coming to an end. In the context of the primacy of industrial politics (including competition policy) and the conflicts between political capitalisms, Europe is defining its milestones. The Green Deal and digital sovereignty play a central role in this work in progress.
Gabriella Muscolo, our National Chapter Coordinator, shone as she launched Italian Chapter, engaging and captivating the audience in her own inimitable way.
